Engaging young people in their learning is becoming more and more difficult. There are so many influences competing for their attention. Involvement in peer-group activities, preoccupations with social media, and commitments outside school are the distractions most frequently mentioned in the research. One way to improve the situation is through teacher-student collaboration which in turn, tends to be based upon questioning. However, the most common way to question students (Initiate-Respond-Evaluate) often reduces engagement and interest! During his presentation, James will give an insight into the research and offer some better ways forward.
